The Marathon of Rotterdam is one of the largest marathons in the Netherlands. During this event SMARTposition tracked two runners for run2day, a major running supplies retailer, with our GPS tracking system. A tracker as small as a matchbox, weighing only 97 grams was carried by the runner.
The tracker sent a location update every 30 seconds, and this location information was instantly accesible via Google Earth or Google Maps. Because of the fast update, it was possible for family, friends and the general public to view an athlete’s performance online during the marathon. Afterwards the athletes we’re able to view the data and thus able to review his own performance. If the runner would also be equipped with a hearth rate monitor, the hearth rate data could be combined with the location data to present an even more complete picture of his performance.
